Donna & Jason

Donna Penny was diagnosed with breast cancer at just 35 years of age, and after a double mastectomy she was given the all clear. Sadly though, she’s recently found out the cancer has returned and has spread throughout her body – including her liver and bones. Donna and husband Jason are battling this new war on cancer together – supporting each other and their family. Donna, is the author of ‘Why My Mummy’ a book she wrote to explain her terminal diagnosis to her young son.

It was popular marriage celebrant Suzanne Riley who approached My Wedding Wish to see if we could help Donna and Jason renew their wedding vows. Suzanne is a ‘serial gifter’ to the My Wedding Wish charity and in a unanimous board decision, the ceremony was granted – of course we could help, and because it would be our last official gifted Renewal of Vows ceremony – we’d make it big. Suzanne, as Wish Leader gathered together an amazing dream team of 30 suppliers to help make Donna’s dream come true.

Donna and Jason are a lively and lovely upbeat couple, but during several of our meetings it was clear Donna was in a lot of pain – mets were growing in her ribs causing pain because the ribs were cracking. Yet, still the thought of this ceremony made her smile shine. She had something positive to look forward to and the Sunshine Coast wedding community pulled together to make it all happen.

The couple planned to have a ‘first look’ at their favourite beach before heading off to their second wedding ceremony. The ceremony, hosted by the always generous Sunshine Castle, oozed with every emotion one could think of. Donna cried when her son walked her down the aisle, and so did the rest of us – and it didn’t stop there – between tears and laughter, the couple renewed their vows in front of 80 of their closest friends, then partied into the night dancing and having the time of their lives.
